A Life at the Moat
The talented actors in the Moat Club present ‘A Life’ by Hugh Leonard, directed by Pat Callaghan, from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 June nightly at 8 pm. The life in question is Drumm’s, a local civil servant with intellectual and artistic leanings, which he has never fully developed. He uses his spare time to give walking tours of Dalkey, the coastal Dublin suburb where he lives. He has just been told that he has six months to live. When he visits his neighbour Mary for the first time in 6 years, Mary describes her new kitchen to him - but when she takes him into it, it is as if it was 40 years ago, and seated at the table is her young self. From that moment on the lives of four people, Drumm, his wife and their on/ off best friends are recounted by a method which mingles both past and present. The Club has produced various Hugh Leonard plays over the years including ‘Da‘, ‘Stephen D‘, and ‘Mick and Mick.
