COMMUNITY ALERT AGM

Castledermot Community Alert are calling for a good turnout at the Annual General Meeting on tomorrow 30 Wednesday January in the Community Centre at 8pm.

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP SPRING PROGRAMME

Talks are held in the Castledermot Community Centre at 8pm on the last Tuesday of the month. Entry €2 (Members free).

Tonight 29 January, Karel Kiely, genealogist with Kildare Genealogy Services will give a talk titled: ‘An Introduction to Researching Family History’. This talk will give you a practical hands-on guide to discovering your own family’s roots, an increasingly popular pastime that many people find fascinating.

MEGGaR CLUB AGM

The Meggar Club held their annual general meeting in the Cabin on the Sport’s field, William Pearse Terrace on Tuesday 22 January. The following were elected for the 2013 season: President: Frank Kirwan, Chairman: Har Wall, Secretary/Treasurer: Declan O’Neill, PRO: Leo Burke, Captain: David Doherty and trainee coach Garry Swayne. The committee wish all well in their new role.

THE LATE MARY-JO LEIGH

The death occurred of Mary-Jo Leigh of Knockroe, Maganey, on Saturday 19 January. She reposed at her residence, and her reception into the Church of the Assumption, Castledermot on Wednesday morning for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by interment in Coltstown cemetery. Fr Paul O’Driscoll Adm officiated.

Sympathy is extended to Mary-Jo’s loving husband Noel, sons Jimmy, Billy, Pat, Noel, Brendan, Mark, Paul, Adrian, daughters, Margaret, Bernadette, Bridget, Josephine, Elizabeth, Helen, Angela, Susan, Michelle, Margaret-Mary, sisters, brother, extended family and a large circle of friends. May she rest in peace.

RATHVILLY GARDEN AND FLOWER CLUB

Rathvilly Garden and Flower Club meet on Wednesday 30 January at 8pm in St Patrick’s Sports and Community Centre, Rathvilly. It will be a Work Night, you can sit back and enjoy watching or take part. Materials will be available on the night. The usual cup of tea and chat will follow the meeting. All are welcome. Admission €5.

ENROLMENT

Enrolment Junior Infants 2013/14 - All completed application forms for enrolment in Junior Infants in Scoil Diarmada for September 2013 should be returned before Friday 1 February.

TIDY TOWNS AGM

Castledermot Tidy Towns AGM was held in The Community Centre on Monday 21 January. Newly appointed PRO Rachel Hott reports: “Thank you to everyone who attended. Mary Holligan stepped down as Chairperson and we would like to thank her for all her hard work. Mary, who has been Chairperson on and off for a number of years, has worked tirelessly to improve and upgrade our village. She will be missed.

The new committee for 2013 was voted in as follows: Chairperson: Joan Horan, Secretary: Celine Fitzgerald, Treasurer: Noeleen Keatley, PRO: Rachel Hott. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us throughout 2012 and as ever would like to welcome any new faces who wish to join us this year. Any and all help is appreciated and as such we invite the people of Castledermot to our next meeting on Monday 25 February at 8.30pm in the community centre.

WHIST

Winner at the Whist on Sunday 20 January were Ciss Keating, Michael Bradley, N O’Brien, A Kehoe and Lar Corcoran. Whist continues each Sunday evening at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. All Card players are welcome.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner in the lotto Jackpot of €1,800. Numbers were 3/16/18/19. Winners of €50 were Thomas and Adam Lawler, Ballyvass, Seller - Thomas Lawler; Carrie Murphy, Main St, Seller - John Phelan; Mary Hendy, Moone, Seller - Dan O’Keeffe; and Sean Lee, seller - Dan O’ Keeffe. Next draw will take place on Tuesday 29 January in Doyle’s Pub. Jackpot €2000.

DEFIBRILLATOR DEMO

Feature of this month’s South Kildare Active Retired association monthly meeting in Moone Hall this Thursday at 8pm will be a demonstration on using a Defibrillator in an emergency. It will be given by Rob O’Brien and his crew of Paramedics. They will have child and adult models to show exactly how to use the equipment and other revival techniques. Defibrillators are essential in heart emergencies. There is a defibrillator on the wall outside the Post Office in Moone but noone I have asked knows what to do with it. Perhaps we will find out on Thursday.

LEVITSTOWN FOROIGE CLUB

PRO Louise tells me “We recently had a colouring competition, and our winners were Marie Dunne from Levitstown National School and Lara Greene from Kilkea National School. Congratulations to the winners! We are presently planning for the year ahead. Levitstown Foróige is always open to new members. We meet at Levitstown Community Hall at 7.30pm every Friday night.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot of €12,500 and the numbers drawn were 3/15/27/29. The three match three winners - Anto, c/o Jimmy Curran, st. John’s, Mary Coss, c/o Breretons, and Arthur Doyle, Upper Main Street.
