ST LAURENCE’S CAMOGIE CLUB A.G.M 2012

Dermot Breen PRO reports “St Laurence’s Camogie Club held it’s A.G.M. in the Clubhouse, Oldgrange on Monday 26th November. In her address Chairperson Liz O’ Donoghue Byrne reported on a good year for the club with our seniors, under the management of Tony McMullen and Kate Treacy, winning the Division 1 League Shield beating a well fancied Celbridge and then going on to contest the Championship Final only to be narrowly beaten by reigning champions Johnstown Bridge. The number of players at this level increased as the year went on and she hoped that with their continued commitment 2013 will be the year we take back the Senior Championship title to Oldgrange.

There was success also at U/21 level with Laurence’s winning the first Championship title in many years. Our U/16’s won the Div 2 Championship while our U/15 won the Div 2 Shield.

Our Go Games U/9 and U/11 girls also got plenty of camogie taking part in a number of Blitz during the year.

Thanks to all those involved in training the underage teams, Mel Treacy, Kate Treacy, Aileen Rafferty, Lizzie Finnegan, Cheyanne Holmes, Jenny Downey, Muireann Fagin, Millie O’Neill and Deirbhile Byrne. Thanks also to all the parents who brought these girls to training and matches. It is important that structures be put in place next year to continue the development of our young players, the future of the club.

Liz also thanked her fellow officers, Kate Treacy, Mel Treacy, Brenda Tallon, Aisling Treacy, Aileen Kelly, Pam Donovan, Carol Nolan, Dermot Breen, and Bernie Flynn.

Thanks also to Patricia Keatley, Ruth Treacy and Brenda Tallon for their help in fundraising through the Cake Sale and the Fashion Show.

Congratulations to our county players Kildare captain Niamh Breen, Carol Nolan, Louise Keatley, and Ciara Tallon on their part in Kildare’s Division 3 League win. Amy Dunne, Muireann Fagin, Melissa O’Neill, Cheyanne Holmes and Deirbhile Byrne represented the club at county minor level. At U/16 Deirbhile Byrne had the honour of captaining the county team while Jenny Downey, Cheyanne Holmes and Aoife Flynn also played U/16 for the county. We were also well represented on the county B squad by Mel Treacy, Muireann Fagin and Maggie Keatley. Special congratulations to Deirbhile who was chosen as Kildare Young Player of the Year for 2012.

Thanks were also extended to Willie Keatley and St. Laurence’s G.A.A. Club for their support throughout the year and the use of their pitches and facilities.

Liz acknowledged the work and support of all our members and supporters and those who gave sponsorship towards the Senior Co. Final and wished all peace and happiness in the coming year and hoped we can contribute to their happiness with another successful camogie year in 2013.
