PBM Construction Masters Division 1

Kildare Town: 1

Leixlip United: 1

The home side started the brighter and were it not for some last ditch defending by Billy Newman and Kevin Mooney at the heart of the visitors defence they could have been two up after ten minutes.

Jason Kane was clean through after just three minutes but Newman somehow got back to deny the striker with a last ditch tackle and a few minutes later Kevin Bradley really should have beaten ‘keeper Terry Cassidy when clean through but his weak effort was easily dealt with by the United custodian.

Kildare Town’s pressure eventually paid off in the 21st minute of play when the impressive Fergal Finn outpaced the Leixlip United defence and was taken down by Kevin Mooney.

Referee Eddie Sullivan pointed to the spot and this time Kane easily beat keeper Terry Cassidy low to his left.

Town continued to press and David Hatfield and Kevin Bradley were both denied by goalkeeper Cassidy and a last ditch tackle by Fergal Barton denied Mark Murphy in the final action of a keenly contested first half of football.

Kildare Town had the batter of the exchanges early in the second half with Bradly and David Kane both failing to add to their tally when in good positions.

The visitors now sensed that they could take something from this game and showed more adventure with Brendan O’Reilly, Mark Wynne and Glen Byrne all testing Kildare Town goalkeeper Johnny Clarke.

It looked however as if Kildare were going to weather the storm and take all three points but in one last foray forward Leixlip notched a deserved goal when Paul Hennessy found Glen Byrne in some space and the striker kept his cool to beat the advance ‘keeper Johnny Clarke low to his right and earn a late late point for Leixlip United.
