Coill Dubh started well and came close after just two minutes when Dylan Hannon volleyed over from a Brian Fogarty cross.

At the other end a fine move involving Sam Dodd, Jamie Fleming and Stephen Mehan culminated with the latter heading over.

The visitors again came close after ten minutes when a shot by Sean Smith was cleared off the line by John Kenny from a Vadin Cozilla free after a foul by Shane O’Donnell.

Five minutes later Coill Dubh tested the Ballymun ‘keeper Stephen Robinson when Brian Fogarty played a neat one two with Darren Fox.

Coill Dubh’s best chance of the firstt half came after 25 minutes when the impressive Fogarty sent Graham O’Sullivan up the wing and he crossed into the danger area where Darren Fox was completely unmarked, however the striker completely miscued his shot.

On the half hour mark home ‘keeper Gavin Craig made a stunning save from a powerful header by Deco Cruz following a corner by Sean Smith.

The only goal of the game came two minutes from the break when Ballymun won a corner on the left and Sam Dodd’s floating effort was powerfully headed past Craig by centre back Dean Hayden.

Coill Dubh came within the width of the crossbar from equalising five minutes into the second half when Brian Fogarty header from a Graham O’Sullivan cross beat ‘keeper Robinson but bounced off the top of the bar.

Most of the second half pressure came from Coill Dubh and they were denied an equaliser in the 70th minute when visiting ‘keeper Stephen Robinson made a stunning triple save. Dylan Hannon picked up the ball in midfield and ghosted past two defenders before firing in a stinging drive which Robinson palmed away. The rebound was met by Shane O’Donnell but once again Robinson somehow managed to push the ball away, this time as far as Hannon who met the ball on a half volley, somehow the ‘keeper managed to tip the ball onto the bar and over for a corner.

Coill dubh’s last chance to equalise came with ten minutes remaining when Dylan Hannon sent substitute Dean Slattery free but his shot failed to trouble the impressive Robinson in the visitors goal.

This was a superb performance from both sides and bodes well for the future of the Under 19 competition.
