Owners under fire for dogs fouling at Naas’ Monread Park

PEOPLE who allow their dogs to use Monread Park as an open air toilet have come under fire.
However if the outcome of an exchange between local politicians and council officials is anything to go by the problem will not be solved in the immediate future.
The nuisance of canines repeatedly fouling the public park is to be referred to Kildare County Council’s dog warden – who covers the entire county.
It was not immediately clear – when the issue was raised at a recent Naas Town Council meeting – whether the community wardens employed by Naas Town Council had any role in tackling the dog owners.
There is little enough information about the role of the dog warden on either NTC or KCC’s website – except for information about dog licences on the county council’s website.
“This is getting worse; there is a huge amount of dog fouling going on in the park and it is affecting children who play there as well as runners and people who visit the park for any reason,” Cllr. Emer McDaid told an NTC meeting.
She said signs with warnings that dog fouling is illegal “are not doing any good.”
