Politicians differ about unfinished Naas shopping centre

IT looks like a case of Naas Town Council (NTC)having some idea of where they want to go but much less about how to get there.

IT looks like a case of Naas Town Council (NTC)having some idea of where they want to go but much less about how to get there.

As the unopened Naas Shopping Centre takes on a semi derelict look, members of NTC are to seek a meeting with the developers Marshalsea.

Cllr. Seamie Moore told a recent NTC meeting it should approach a Government minister to press for the centre to be completed.

The council should engage with local TDs, the North Kildare Chamber and other groups to meet a Government minister to press for the centre to be completed.

“At one time Naas was the premier shopping town in the county but now that’s gone. I think the future of the town depends on the shopping centre,” Cllr. Moore told the meeting.

Cllr. Rioghnagh Bracken said a task force should be set up.

However Cllr. Willie Callaghan, Naas Mayor, disagreed.

He was against including the TDs because they have a remit for the entire constituency and not just Naas. Cllr. Callaghan is the sole Fianna Fail member of the council and none of the TDs represent Fianna Fail.

Town Manager Eamonn O’Sullivan said he believed the shopping centre is vital for the future of Naas, adding the council is committed to it.
