Workers at Bord na Mona in Newbridge will stike on Tuesday, April 10, over the company’s failure to give them a 3.5% pay increase.
The workers balloted for the strike action earlier this month and notice was served on the company last week.
A statement from the company read that “in recent months, company representatives have had a series of meetings with the Bord na Mona Group of Unions to discuss the Labour Court ruling and clarification.
The company has pointed out in these meetings that in the unprecedented economic crisis that to increase rates of pay by 3.5% would undermine employment in Bord na Mona at a very bleak time in the Irish economy.”
Meanwhile Bord na Mona’s Group of Unions spokesperson Oliver McDonagh said the strike action was ‘regrettable but necessary’.
