The open evening for clubs and groups in Kildare town which was held in the CYMS last Thursday night, October 27, has been described as a “great success” by its organisers.
A crowd of up to 200 people thronged the hall where 54 community organisations had laid out their wares on stalls.
The evening was organised by Kildare Town Community Forum in order to let Kildare people know what is happening in their town. It was also a networking opportunity for the clubs themselves, who were hoping to increase their memberships on the night.
“People who had lived in the town for 10 or 11 years but did not know what was going on were raving about it,” said Donna Hill, spokesperson for the organisers.
Kildare Drama Group won the prize for the best stall, which was sponsored by the Silken Thomas. Local artist Susan Boyle co-ordinated an exhibition of spooky pumpkin carvings outside the door to mark Hallowe’en.
Next, the Forum hopes to create a community directory and is also working on a local website in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce.
