TWO group water schemes the county have been taken in charge by Kildare County Council.

At their meeting on 27 May, the Council agreed to take over the Mount Prospect GWS south of Rathangan and the larger Wheelam/Christianstown scheme near Milltown.

The Mount Prospect scheme, built in 2009, comprises 2.8km of pipeline in Kildare and 600m in Offaly.

Offaly County Council was in agreement with the move and it will take in charge its 600m section.

The scheme has 34 connections, both domestic and non domestic and the last connection charge was €1,200.

The others scheme, for which the last connection fee was €230, was built in the 1970’s. It is 8.5km long and has 107 connections. It has been upgraded.

Kildare County Council engineers recommended that it be taken in charge and the Council agreed to this.
