AB Fab’s Lorcan Burke was absolutely delighted with the accolade thrown at his Celbridge business.
The well known and popular local florist travelled to Belfast on June 9 to receive an award run by the all Ireland Wedding Journal magazine as wedding florist of the year.
Over afternoon tea and drinks in the Malone Lodge Hotel, Lorcan was delighted to receive the award. It was one of a number of awards presented by the Journal, which asked customers around the country to nominate their top shop in various categories. “We were told there were five nominations in our category,” said Lorcan.
Around 28,000 people are believed to have voted in the online vote. Lorcan was over the moon. “People have been great, sending in their best wishes. His main street shop, which deals with all sorts of flower requests, from men in trouble with their partners, to entire wedding packages. “We love to do weddings as a specialiaty,” said Lorcan, whose creative skills have found him customers in Athlone and the Aran Islands among other spots. Originally from Longwood, Meath, Lorcan studied in NUI Maynooth before starting to work in Celbridge in 1995. Since 1998, he has run his own shop, these times with the help of Sarah and Brigitte. The business has become competitive but Lorcan, whose favourite flower is the burnt orange coloured, Bird of Paradise, has continued to flourish.
