Nolan’s Butchers, the family run meat retailer based at Poplar Square, is in line for a prestigious business award.
The business has been picked as one of the top 100 in Ireland and has a strong chance of making it to at least the top 50 in Ireland and these shops will be revealed later this month.
Some 20,000 enterprises took part in the REI’s Store of the Year awards event, which concludes on November 1 when the individual award winners are announced.
“We’re delighted to be in the top 100 in Ireland under headings like hygiene, service, in-shop displays, and cleanliness to name a few, but the service is the most important element,” said proprietor Derek Nolan. Nolan’s received a points rating of 98 out of a possible 100, which means the retailer has a good prospect of progressing further in the competition.
“I’m told that this was the highest category score REI have allocated to participants. I’m hopeful of making it to the top 50 but even to be among the top 100 is an incredible achievement for us,” he added.Nolan’s underwent a complete internal upgrade covering new signage, units, display equipment and the project designer entered the shop in competition.
Nolans cut the meat they sell every on that morning and there is an on site abattoir at the back of the Naas premises.
“We kill all our own animals, we have our own farm and our hygiene standards are top class and endorsed by the EU,” Mr. Nolan added
He is the fifth generation of the Nolan family to work in the business and the shop has been open in There is spin-off employment too for people working in the disposal of hides, skins and bones. “Naas stores have got a bad press in recent times but this is a good news story and we’d like to thank the people of the town for their support,” he added.
