THERE are fears that the annual Oxegen concert might not return to Punchestown Racecourse after complaints about the cost of running the event.

The gardai and Kildare County Council have defended the costs levied on promoters, MCD.

This follows a complaint by MCD director Caroline Downey Desmond that the costs associated with Oxegen are much greater than for similar events in other countries.

The cost of services provided by the council for the 2010 gig amounted to less than €40,000 but gardai costs could be in the region of 15 times that figure.

MCD does not disclose the profit it takes from the concert, which has attracted up to 80,000 people before numbers fell considerably in 2011.
