Students’ Monasterevin model ideas considered

Ideas presented in a scale model of Monasterevin should be considered in future developments in the town, a meeting of Kildare Area Committee heard last Wednesday.

The project was carried out by second year architecture students at DIT Bolton Street and has been on display in the council offices in Naas and at the CYMS in Monasterevin in the last few months.

The project was presented at a Kildare Area Committee meeting in May and Councillor Suzanne Doyle asked the council official who liaised with the project to prepare a brief, outlining the key issues of interest that might be considered as policies for Monasterevin.

At a meeting of the committee last week, Cllr Doyle asked if some of the plan could be considered when other projects are being carried out.

She thought the idea of a walking track, presented in the model running around the town via the gardens by the river, was “lovely”, suggesting it could be an alternative to the Sli na Slainte route. “We’d love to have the same service for every town,” added Cllr Fiona O’Loughlin.
