KILDARE had one of the better new private car sales records in June, figures from the Central Statistics Office show.Sales were cars were down on June 2011. But while sales for the State as a whole in June 2012 were just 66.7% of the numbers for June 2011, in Kildare, the 2012 figure was 72.16% of the 2011.
The best performer was Roscommon where 2012 sales dropped slightly to just under 97% of the 2011 level.
Limerick city was the worst performer with 24.14%.
Nearby Wicklow was ahead of Kildare at 81.3% of the 2011 month but Meath was behind it with just 60.9% of 2011 sales.
Kildare compared well with neighbours Laois (70.3%), Offaly (62.8%) and Carlow (59.4%).
While 324 new cars were registered with Kildare County Council in June last, the figure was 449 in 2011, compared to 412 in 2010 and 325 in June 2009.
