It’s believed that the incident took place on Sunday night/Monday morning outside Aras Chill Dara (the county council offices) at Newbridge Road.

“It appears as if they went a bit of a rampage turning over the large display pots and they also ripped up a litter bin which was embedded in concrete. I would think at least two people were involved,” said Naas Tidy Towns vice chairman Seamie Moore.

He estimated the damage at between E300 and E400.

“It is not a huge amount of money but it means that the people working to improve the appearance of the town have to fix it again,” Cllr Moore added.

He also said that he was heartened by encouraging comments about the work of the Tidy Towns group from people passing by the scene yesterday (Monday) morning as the damage was being assessed.

It is hoped that CCTV cameras in the area may have recorded the incident.
