No danger to road projects from NRA announcement

Kildare County Council has said that they are aware of no threat to two major ongoing road projects in Kildare, the R402 between Enfield and Edenderry and the southern distributor road in Athy, due to funding cuts.

Concern was raised following the shelving of 45 large road projects by the National Roads Authority last week.

And there were calls for the Minister for Transport to clarify the status of one of the roads, the Southern distributor road in Athy.

However, a spokesperson for Kildare County Council said that officials had contacted the NRA and there was no confirmation of any change in the status of these projects.

“Budgets for 2011 remain in place,” the spokesperson confirmed.

And a spokesperson for the NRA told the Leinster Leader that the NRA only deals with national routes.
