Tributes pour in for Newbridge mum of two

Edel Slicker RIP

Tributes have flooded in after the sudden passing of a young Newbridge woman last weekend.  

The funeral mass for Edel Slicker (née Delaney) takes place this Thursday in Newbridge.  

On its facebook page, Sarsfield GAA club said; “Sarsfields GAA wish to express our deepest sympathies to the Slicker and Delaney Families on the recent and tragic passing of Edel. Edel is wife to Gavin Slicker, mother to Gwen and Joe. Daughter of Frank and Ursula, and sister of Yvonne and Frank. We express our sympathies to all of Edel's extended family and friends. Heaven has most definitely gained an Angel. Industrial fitness gym said it was a tragic time for Newbridge.

“On behalf of all of us here at the gym I want to send on heartfelt condolences to Gavin and the Slicker and Delaney families on the passing of their beautiful Edel. The outcry of grief around the whole county is testament to the legacy that Edel has left and ..., I really don’t have any other words that I can say. My heart is with all of Edel’s family and friends at this terrible time. May Edel rest in peace.”

Newbridge FC said; “On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish to offer our condolences and sympathies to Gavin Slicker and the Delaney family on the passing of Gavin's wife Edel. May she rest in peace.”

It’s understood Edel, who was in her thirties, took ill while exercising and was rushed to hospital. She later passed away in the care of Beaumont Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She will be reposing at her family home from 4 o’clock tomorrow, Wednesday with prayers at 8 o’clock. Her funeral mass takes place at 11am at St. Conleth's Parish Church, Newbridge with cremation afterwards at Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold's Cross at 2pm. House private on Thursday morning.

Edel was a talented footballer and joined the county Seniors in 1998/99, winning four Leinster Junior titles and playing in the Junior All Ireland Finals of 2001 and 2003.
