Chapmans reopens in Kildare Town

Chapmans was originally founded in Kildare in the 1930s

Chapmans, a well known motoring brand throughout Leinster and Kildare, has been taken on by another well known Kildare-based family company with ties to the motor industry.

Heffernan Tyres was established in 1953 by Joe Heffernan, the father of Thomas Heffernan, who, along with his wife Linda, have taken on the Chapman name.

Heffernan Tyres has a strong emphasis on quality, value and customer service and their state of the art service was named Irish Tyre Retailer of the Year for 2016 from Auto Trader Magazine.

They have also won regional awards in the previous two years.

Chapmans will also have the same strong emphasis on quality, value and customer service that their sister company has been rewarded for.

In 2013, Thomas and Linda Heffernan took over Chapmans, a car dealership that was founded in the 1930’s and in more recent times agreed to take on the Mitsubishi franchise.

Such was the iconic nature of the Chapman name, Thomas explains, he felt comfortable retaining the name.

“It was a natural progression for us to expand from the service side of things into car sales,” he said.

“We aim to continue to provide all the services for our existing customer base, as well as new customers, maintain our attention to detail, quality and value.”

Coincidentally, Thomas’s uncle Simon Heffernan served his time at Chapmans as an apprentice mechanic, and worked with the then owner Herbie Chapman for 45 years.

Thomas and Linda are joined by Paddy Hartnett as a sales executive, Fidelma Conway in sales and admin, Jane Murphy on reception, Darren Johnson is in parts, and is assisted by Joe Heffernan.

Chapmans are now sales, service and parts agents for Mitsubishi, which of course is a quality brand, and is well regarded in the Irish market.

“Mitsubishi is the home of the eight year warranty,” Thomas points out.

From the small Space Star, all the way through the Lancer, ASX and Outlander in passenger vehicles, to the firm favourites and work horse L200 and Pajero models in the commercial segments, Mitsubishi is a byword for quality and value.

Mitsubishi offers PCP and Hire Purchase on all new vehicles at a rate of 3.9% and 5.9% Apr respectively.

“Our biggest seller is the Outlander,” he explained, adding that for an offer of €150, customers can get the Style, Active or Tech packs.

“And that will make an even good value car even better value.”

Another big seller for Mitsubishi is the L300, which has the best towing ability in its class, great fuel economy and a tighter turning circle than most of its competitors and starts at €31,700.

The Pajero is the Mitsubishi’s flagship vehicle which is heading for 35 years old and in both short and long-wheelbase versions remains as popular as ever.

The Space Star is aimed at the economy city car market, while the Lancer is an attractive small saloon, more than holding its own in its market segment.

The ASX is a compact crossover vehicle, very popular with small families, while the Outlander is the attractive and comfortable family workhorse car.

The PHEV version of the Outlander is an economical plug-in hybrid, offering great fuel economy and Band A €170 tax.

Chapmans also has a wide range of quality second hand cars.
