Kildare County Council announced the award of the contract to build the R402 Enfield to Edenderry Road Improvement Scheme to Coffey Construction last Friday, March 2, 2012.
The project will cost approximately €36.5 million, including the design, supervision of works, land acquisition, advanced works, archaeology, diversion of services and the main contract, and will take approximately two years to complete.
The project consists of the realignment and improvement of the road and covers approximately 11 kilometres of roadway.
The project has been a long term goal of people living in the north eastern part of Offaly and the north western part of Kildare, who, despite living reasonably close to the M4 motorway, have to contend with quite a bad road to get to it.
This roads project is funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
Having regard to the current economic climate, Kildare County Council is very pleased that this project is going ahead at this time and would like to acknowledge the financial support of the Department for this very important road improvement scheme.
