A renewed call has been made for a skateboard park in Newbridge, one year after it was first requested by a group of skaters called Youth Action Newbridge.

In a statement released by the the group this week, they have urged councillors to @be conscious of young future-voters rights, to listen to the youth and not to be ignore them as before and to engage honestly with young citizens”.

“Over a year has passed and YAN have seen little or no progress from Newbridge Town Council,” it said.

“We understand that Naas and Kilcullen are both to get skateparks. Where there is a will there is a way.”

The group of local youths first presented the idea for a skatepark to Newbridge Town Councillors in November 2011 and were given assurances at the time that the council would try and this project to fruition.

Despite the issue remaining on the agenda for over a year councillors have not made any signifcant headway into the development of a skateboard park for the town.

“We have identified certain council owned sites and are currently writing to various bodies and persons with regard to Youth Action Newbridge,” continued the statement.

“We wish to take this opportunity to remind Newbridge Town Councillors of assurances given in November 2011 regarding the provision of a skatepark for Newbridge.”

Issues preventing the developement of the park in the past mainly included a specific location and lack of funding.
