Work to begin on new all inclusive community centre
WORK is to finally start on the development of a new community centre for Naas, the Leinster Leader has learned. The old Parish Centre is being developed into "an all inclusive community centre" by Nás na Riogh Housing Association Ltd. (NNRHA). Work is expected to begin before the end of the month.
Margharita Solon told the Leader on Monday that the impending start to construction work was "great news for everyone".
The design team working for NNRHA on the development of the apartments for independent living is finalising the pre-construction details for the housing element of the NNRHA project.
Two local young men have undertaken to run a five-a-side soccer tournament as a fundraiser for the community centre development.
Emlyn Hegarty-Kelly and Declan Donnelly outlined their proposal for the fundraiser to committee members of NNRHA a few weeks ago and the committee is said to be delighted with the possibility of giving a sense of ownership of the new facilities to younger members of the community.
Emlyn and Declan have been working around the clock to ensure that the soccer tournament is a huge success and a fun day for all involved.
They have secured a Sunderland jersey as a valuable raffle prize and are eager to accept more offers of prizes and of sponsorship for the event.
The five-a-side soccer tournament will take place at the Caragh Road sports centre on Saturday 29, September from 10am to 5pm. Teams of seven players will cost €70 per team.(ages 16+).
Registration from 15 September. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams and more. For further information and registration contact Declan at 085) 7113003 or Emlyn at (085) 7186932 or (045) 866303.
"The community centre is being developed by the community for the community with the help of the community and your support is invaluable," said Ms Solon.
"Thanks to the support of KELT and Naas Town Council, Ns na Riogh Community Centre Private Members Draw will commence on Sunday 28 October. The five monthly draws will finish on Sunday 24 February 2008.
"NNRHA is indebted to the local community for the incredible ongoing support it is receiving for the project. A plaque with names of major supporters will be erected at the development when it is opened."
