White House hangs Newbridge man’s painting

A former Newbridge bank manager turned artist has performed the ultimate career hat trick with one painting hanging in Buckingham Palace, another one in Aras an Uachtarain and now there is one on display in the White House.
Michael Hanrahan presented his painting ‘Obama in Moneygall’ to US Ambassador Dan Rooney in Dublin recently. The gift to the US president and his wife was then delivered directly to The White House, in Washington.
Michael, who was the only artist to cover the historical visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Kildare last year, commemorated the President of the United States, Barrack Obama’s visit to the midlands town with which he has family connections last year.
“I presented it to Dan at the US Embassy in Dublin early Febuary,” he said.“Little did I think my work would end up there. It’s a dream to have something in the White House. It was a huge honour. I have to pinch myself but I have worked hard and I saw an opportunity.”
A second painting of the same visit was officially presented to President of the US-Ireland alliance Trina Vargo in Dublin last week.
This will be auctioned with the proceeds going to The Senator George Mitchell Scholarship Fund.
