Waiting times cut at Naas General Hospital

THERE has been another marked decrease in the number of hospitals awaiting treatment on trolleys at Naas General Hospital.
On two days last week (Wednesday April 25 and Friday April 27) there were no patients on trolleys as the hospital, which also serves West Wicklow.
Figures produced by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that the number of patents did not exceed 2 over a five day period between Monday April 23 and Friday April 27.
However there was a comparative ”spike” in the level of patients on trolleys yesterday (Monday April 30) when the number rose to 10.
But this is low when compared to number pressures at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department over recent years.
Apart from Naas, the St. James’ Hospital in Dublin had no patients awaiting treatment on Friday last or yesterday.
The hospitals in Navan and Portlaoise also had no patients on trolleys last Friday.
Some, including Fine Gael TD Anthony Lawlor, have attributed the fall to initiatives established by Health Minister James Reilly, which are producing improvements to how hospitals manage the inflow of patients, particularly at peak times of year.
The total number of people waiting on trolleys in hospitals across the country for the first 16 days of January 2012 was 27% lower than last year.
