MEMBERS of the local soccer club flanked the cortege as the funeral of 21-year-old James Nolan took place in Blessington yesterday (Monday).
The environmental engineering student at Tallaght Institute of Technology drowned in a river in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, having travelled to Poland to support the Republic of Ireland soccer team in the Euro 2012 competition.
His tragic death touched many thousands of people here, in Poland and elsewhere and the attendance at his requiem mass at the Church of Our Lady, Blessington, included the Polish Ambassador Marcin Nawrot, who walked behind the cortege.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given and FAI Chief Executive John Delaney were also there, along with many green and black bedecked Blessington soccer club members.
