The two men who were arrested with €3.5 million worth of drugs in the Tesco carpark, Monread, on Thursday, January 17 made their second appearance in court last Wednesday, January 23 and were refused bail.

The pair, Jason Brennan, 33, and Mark Mahony, 32, whose addresses are listed as 5 Willow Way Road, Primrose Gate, Celbridge and 46 Oak Court Lawn, Palmerstown, Dublin 20 respectively, had appeared initially at Kilcock District Court on Friday, January 18.

The pair are charged with possession of heroin and cocaine and with possession of the drugs for sale or supply.

Mr. Mahony faces similar charges in relation to €400,000 worth of cannabis at Oak Court Lawn, Palmerstown, which was discovered in a follow up search.

The pair did not apply for bail a the Kilocck appearance and were remanded in custody.

Last Wednesday, barrister Kitty Perle made an appliction for bail on behalf of the two men. She told Judge Desmond Zaidan that the pair had a history of always appearing in court whenever they were required to do so.

“Neither of them has ever taken a warrant,” she said.

Gardai objected to bail on the basis that the drugs involved were worth somewhere between €3.5 million and €7 million and therefore they were objecting on the basis of the seriousness of the charges.

They also objected on the basis of a flight risk, that the pair may flee the jurisdiction before the case could be heard.

Counsel argued that the pair had significant links within the jurisdiction and none outside it.

The Garda witness agreed with the first part, but said he could not comment on the second part.

Judge Zaidan said he would refuse bail on the basis of the serious nature of the allegations against the two men.
