Two suspected dissident republicans are in Garda custody following a search of a Newbridge house.

Two men were arrested in Newbridge last night in relation to dissident republican activity.

As part of ongoing investigations Gardai from the Special Detective Unit, Harcourt Square were joined by local in searching a house in Lakeside Park, Newbridge on Thursday evening, February 28.

They discovered a number of items which they describe as being associated with the manufacture of pipe bombs.

Two men, aged 39 and 45 were arrested and are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 Offences of the State Act.

One is being held in Naas while the other is in Newbridge.
