The world’s “biggest loser” was in Athy last week to give a pep talk to members of Slimming World which celebrated one year in existence recently.

Matt Briggs lost 17-and-a-half stone with the assistance of Slimming World and he inspired and motivated Athy members with his story.

Matt, who is now a Slimming World counsellor, told the group how he was inspired to lose the weight after seeing a picture of himself on Facebook.

Athy Slimming World opened in the early days of January 2012.

It now has approximately 200 members and has lost a total of 786 stone in total the past 12 months. It meets every Wednesday at 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm at the GAA centre in the town.
