The South Kildare Photography Club will exhibit photographs taken by a number of members in Newbridge Credit Union from Tuesday, October 9 to Saturday October 20.

The exhibition consists of over 100 photos both in colour and black and white covering a wide variety of images and styles to include landscape, portraits, street photography, and has been described as a ‘feast for the eyes in its diversity’.

The club was formed in 2008 and is open to anyone over 18 years of age. Members are from Newbridge, Naas, Kildare and surrounding areas.

“The aim of the club is to promote photography and improve the skills of its members,” said PRO John Leahy. “All levels of photographers are welcome whether a complete beginner or advanced. The club meets on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. in Newbridge Parish Centre. Many members have a lot of experience which they will willingly share in a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere.”

The digital era has made photography more affordable and has introduced new possibilities.

“You can process your images on your computer and publish the results,” he added.

“During the winter months, we have many indoor activities. Guest speakers are invited and will discuss their techniques, interests and travel experiences. Practical workshops covering such topics as portraits, flash photography, abstract and close up photography.” Club competitions are held every month and results can be viewed on our website. The club also participates in National competitions.

“In spring and summer we usually visit such places as Glendalough, Saltee Islands, Stradbally, Clare. When you visit the exhibition you can participate in our free draw and perhaps win a voucher for 50, 30 or 20 euro. There is also a children’s draw with valuable prizes.

So, why not drop down to the Parish Centre any Thursday night where you will be more than welcome with a chat and cup of tea.”
