Sinn Féin will launch their Celbridge branch, the Tom Kealy Cumann, this Saturday, 3 November.

A party spokesperson said Tom Kealy was a well respected Republican in Kildare from the 1920’s till his death in November 1981.

“The Ballyoulster man was best known for his involvement in the famed Magazine Fort Raid, which took place in the Phoenix Park in 1939, along with fellow Kildare men Jack Guiney, Frank Driver and Seán Ashe.

“Kealy was interred for his involvement in the raid, and also spent time in the Curragh Internment Camp and Mountjoy Jail for his Republican activities.”

The Cumann will be launched in the afternoon but before the launch a parade will take place through Celbridge.

At 2.00pm, lead by The Phoenix Flute Band, the gathering will parade from Castletown gates, through the town and to Donaghcomper Cemetary.

The crowd will then gather at Kealy’s grave where main speaker for the event, Sinn Féin Vice-President Mary Lou McDonald T.D., will give an oration.

All attending are then invited to the Abbey Lodge, on the bridge in Celbridge, where Sinn Féin’s latest Cumann will be launched.
