A 3kms run on St. Stephen’s Day in the grounds of Maynooth’s Carton Estate raised in excess of €7,000 for the 3Ts suicide prevention charity, writes Conor McHugh.
The run was in memory of Maynooth woman Deirdre Cusker, who died from suicide in 2010 and was the second official edition of the ‘Run for Mum’. Notwithstanding the occasional inclement weather, more than 500 people took part in the event, starting at the entrance to Carton Avenue at the end of Maynooth’s Main Street. Of the 500, 200 ran while 300 walked the route which followed a 3km loop that included Carton Avenue and the old Dublin Road in Maynooth.
There were prizes for the first three runners home as well as the best dressed on the day.
Refreshments were served afterwards in nearby O’Neill’s Pub.
