A road accident which claimed the life of an elderly Naas woman last year was recalled at a sitting of Naas District Court today, Friday May 12.

78 year old Margaret (Peg) Goulding died from injuries she sustained having been hit by a car as she crossed the road close to the Eurospar store near Fairgreen Street, Naas.

The accident took place on August 8 last as the deceased made her way to mass from her home.

John Allen whose address was given as Uppertown, Dunlavin, was prosecuted for driving without due care attention and the case was adjourned from earlier this week into a special court hearing originally scheduled for Kilcock.

Mr. Allen (55), represented by solicitor Peter Doyle, admitted the offence and the court heard he was driving from the main street and into Loch Bui. But his car mirror “clipped” Mrs. Goulding as she walked across.

Judge Desmond Zaidan adjourned the case until Thursday next, May 17, and he criticised Mr. Allen’s driving. He said he legislation governing the offence had been updated in the past year and he wanted the opinion of the Director of Public Prosecutions about whether he should finalise the case or refer it to the Circuit Court.
