Rathangan woman threatened with rock
Gardai are seeking witnessese to the incident.
A Rathangan woman had a terrifying ordeal last Friday afternoon, September 7, when she was visiting the local graveyard.
Gardai have reported that at 3.30 the woman who is from a well known local family was looking in the boot of her car when she was approached by a male who demanded money from her, writes Conor McHugh.
When she said she didn’t have any, he picked up a rock and threatened her with it.
She tried to run away, but in the confusion, tripped and fell, injuring her wrist, leg and face.
Nothing was stolen and the woman was not struck by the man who was described as being tall and thin and aged between 20 and 30.
Gardai believe he is not native to the area.
A search was carried out of the area, including assistance from the Garda helicopter, but the suspect was not found.
The man had been observed in the vicinity for at least half an hour previously. “It is believed he was on foot, with no transport that we know of,” a Garda source said.
Gardai are anxious to track his movements in the hours leading up to the incident, particularly where he was throughout the town earlier that day.
“If anyone saw anybody acting suspiciously, in the town, or getting off a bus that day, we would like to speak to them.”
As of yesterday afternoon, it is reported that the woman, who was badly shaken by the incident, has been released from hospital.
Gardai also warned people to be careful at the graveyard in general, given the number of break-ins there over the past year.
“There’s been nothing like this before, bur cars have been broken into,” they explained.
