A 54-year old Prosperous man with a previously unblemished record faced charges at Naas District Court last Wednesday, October 24.

John Zuczock, whose address is listed as 3 Temple Court, Prosperous, pleaded guilty to a drink driving charge on June 17 last on the Clane Road, Sallins and to public order charges at his home address.

Garda John Joe O’Connell told the court that a reading of 52 miligrams of alcohol per 100 mililitres of breath was detected.

And in the incident at his home, Gardai responded to a call and found him was very intoxicated and very abusive to his partner.

He was arrested and brought to Naas Garda station.

Representing him, David Gibbons explained that the couple had had their difficulties but that they were now back together – although Mr. Zuczock’s partner had not withdrawn her complaint against him.

“She’s glad she put the complaint in. She feels it put manners on him,” Mr. Gibbons explained.

The 54-year old has no previous convictions.

The couple have a five year old daughter.

He is currently unemployed but has worked in the past as a truck driver.

He is currently receiving treatment having had a stroke.

And Mr. Gibbons asked the judge for a postponement of the disqualification for a few months to allow his client travel to get medical attention.

Judge Desmond Zaidan fined Mr. Zuczock €800 and disqualified for two years.

He postponed the disqualification to January 15, but wondered why the defendant couldn’t use public transport.
