Off-duty garda assaulted during Athy burglary bid
More than 20 garda have been assigned to the investigation
An alert off-duty garda in Athy was assaulted by three men as he blocked a burglary taking place using his car last week, writes Lisa Deeney.
The local garda observed an attempted burglary taking place in the early hours of 10 April in the Gallow Hills residential area.
“Using his car, he attempted to block the intruders. The window of the passenger seat in his car was smashed and he was assaulted with a rock,” said Sgt Jim Bergin of Athy Garda Station.
“He was stuck on the head with a rock and was taken to Naas General Hospital for his injuries and received a number of stitches.”
The three male intruders were all dressed in black and were wearing balaclavas. They drove away in a Black Saab car, with a partial registration of 03MH. Sgt Bergin is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 0598634210.
