Newbridge woman Clare Daly has left the Socialist Party.

Newbridge woman and TD Clare Daly has left the Socialist party.

The party announced her departure on its website last Saturday.

She was one of only two TDs for the party, the other being Joe Higgins.

Amidst accusations of a closeness between herself and controversial Wexford TD, Mick Wallace, the party has reacted angrily to her departure.

She has said she does not want to engage in public mudslinging, but says that some elements of the Socialist party’s statement is inaccurate.

Instead she says she wants to concentrate on growing the United Left Alliance.
