A recruitment drive for young job seekers in Newbridge to work in Germany is on the cards thanks to the recent visit of the German deputy Ambassador, Peter Zingraf,to the town.

Twinning Committee member Willie Crowley is currently pursuing the idea of a major jobs seminar, to take place in Newbridge shortly, with the German Embassy.

“It is a community initiative,” said Willie. “It’s a great compliment to Newbridge that they chosen the town for the seminar. We are aiming for a date in mid November.”

The idea was first mooted with the German twinning group of Newbridge and Bad Lippspringe and the German Deputy Head of Mission in Ireland, Peter Zingraf due to the “aging population in Germany which can no longer sustain the existing infrastructure”.

“The Ambassador remarked that Irish people enjoyed a favourable profile in Germany and that there exists many opportunities for them should they decide to work there,” said Embassy spokesperson Martin Rojeck who attended a reception with Willie Crowely at the private residence of the German Ambassador to Ireland Dr Eckhard Lubkemeier to mark Germany’s National Unity Anniversary Day.

According to Willie, a schools information tour is also planned to outline to students the benefits of acquiring a second language and the opportunities that this would offer to school leavers seeking their first job.

Meanwhile Twinning PRO, Peter O’Neill, who has just returned from Germany with a large group of over 100 people from Newbridge, took the opportunity to show to many interested groups the recently produced DVD entitled ‘Newbridge-The Heart of Kildare.’

This was in an attempt to further increase German interest in Newbridge and Kildare and attract visitors and commercial interests to the town.
