graduates of the Newbridge Community Development (NCD) Childcare Programme received their Fetac Level 5 certificates on Friday night, at the training centre in the Courtyard.

The Mayor of Kildare, Micheal ‘Spike’ Nolan, presented the certificates to the 14 graduates.

The Childcare course, Fetac Level 5, is free of charge to potential students on the FAS register.

To date 140 learners have successfully completed the course over 44 weeks.

The aim of the course is to bring all learners to the desired level to secure employment in the area of child care and to provide the basis for further education such as level 6 in child care.

“NCD are involved in many projects supporting community development and are very proud of the achievements of the childcare course and its contribution to the community development of Newbridge,” said jobs coach Donna Hill.

The Fetac Level 5 in Childcare is a 44 week course in conjunction with FÁS and provides a training centre in Newbridge.

“The aim of the course is to bring all learners to the desired level to secure employment in the area of child care and to provide the basis for further education such as level 6 in child care,” she added.

“The benefits of this course is that it has a high success rate of students obtaining employment after completion, about 80 percent, and it has a community aspect and a person centred approach.”

This course can be a stepping stone to further education or to work, creches, playschools and childminding.
