A handful of local Leaving Cert students received bursaries from Newbridge Credit Union recently.

The scheme, which dates back five years, is open to members and their families for a grant worth from E2,000 to E500. It is available for students going to third level.

This year’s winners, which were all selected on the basis of a draw, were Conor Mulpeter, Newbridge; Rebecca Murphy, Milltown; Karen Crofton, Newbridge and Kayleigh McCarthy, Suncroft. Past receipents of the awards also continue to have support in the form of an annual credit union bursary for the duration of their third level courses.

One of the key social aims of Newbridge Credit Union is to support students to further their education through third level study.

Winners from previous years, who are continuing with their courses, were also awarded their follow-up funding at the prizegiving ceremony recently.

Breda Reid from Newbridge Credit Union thanked the promotion and development committee for its work on the bursary scheme.

She also thanked staff members, the local schools and all the applicants for this years awards.

She congratulated the winnners and wished them well in their future academic careers.

Students can apply for the third level bursaries each year, with the closing date following the Leaving Certificate results in early September.

Entrants will be accepted from members throughout the county within the areas of Newbridge, Caragh, Two Mile House, Allen and Suncroft.
