A young Naas man has been charged with public order offences after he insisted on fighting a publican who had ejected him.

Patrick Coady, whose address is listed as 7 Lacken View, Naas appeared before Naas District Court last Wednesday, February 6 charged with several counts under the Public Order Act.

He was spotted by Gardai on December 16 last South Main Street, Naas. As Gardai approached him, he discarded a white sock.

He had had a disagreement with the owner of the Five Lamps pub and was refusing to leave the area “without a straightener”.

“For his hair?” Judge Zaidan said.

“He wanted to fight the publican,” Inspector Patsy Glennon explained.

“He called his mother out of the pub and told her to watch him getting arrested,” the court heard.

It is believed he had taken a pool ball from the Five Lamps to put into the sock.

“This is a young man for whom drink doesn’t suit,” Inspector Glennon noted,

He has previous convictions for similar incidents.

Mr. Coady is 23 years old. On the day in question he went to the pub with his parents and had three pints, his barrister explained.

At some point he was accused of committing something against the pub and put out by the publican.

“His behaviour afterwards was unacceptable and he apologises for that,” counsel explained, and added: “He doesn’t drink a lot. He maybe had only two pints on the day.”

The defendant has two children with his girlfriend.

He told the court that he had been insulted in the pub.

“It doesn’t matter,” Judge Zaidan told him.

“Naas Garda Station is down the road. That’s where you should have gone.”

Noting that “he’s already been in jail and learned nothing,” Judge Zaidan fined Mr. Coady a combined total of €900.
