KILDARE continues to have one of the least native populations in the State, an analysis of the 2011 Census shows.

The Census shows that 61.2% of the present population of the county was born outside of it, with only Meath having a higher proportion of non-natives living in the county.

The Census shows that Kildare, Meath and Wicklow have very large non-native populations.

It also shows there are 175,500 Kildare born people living in the State, but only only 80,993 Kildare natives living in the State actually lived in their own county at the time of the Census.

Most of the rest, 60,849, lived in Dublin and just 9,186 in Munster and around 6,000 in Connaught.

Perhaps more surprisingly, there are just 1,779 Kildare natives living in Meath, who were born in Kildare, compared to 3,888 in Laois and 2,028 in Wicklow.

Of the 61.2% non native residents, 45.2% of the population (94,507) were born in counties other than Kildare, part reflecting its links with Dublin.

Another 16% were born outside the State, which reflects the figure for the State itself.

Just 38.7% or 80,993 of those present in Kildare on the Census day last year were natives of the county.

This is much higher proportion thank for the State as a whole.

Cork tops the list when it comes to natives sticking to their own counties – 75% of the population were born in the county.

Newly crowned All Ireland champions, Donegal also have a high native population (70%) but, at 22% they have the highest proportion of non nationals in the State, 
compared to just 12.6% in 
Kilkenny, the lowest proportion in the State.

In Dublin, 66% of the population were born in the capital.
