Miracle escape for Newbridge father and daughter
A father and his 13-year-old daughter who popped out to the shop to get bread and milk last Monday evening are lucky to be alive after their car went under a lorry at Connell Drive in Newbridge.
The driver David Higgins, who swerved to take the impact from his daughter, was left with a broken neck and his 13-year-old daughter Emma suffered a broken elbow and swollen face after a lorry travelling from Naas lost control on the slippery surface, crossed the road and collided with their car travelling in the opposite direction.
A call has been made again for Kildare County Council to ban lorries from a residential area of Old Connell Newbridge. Gardai were called to the scene at Connell Drive at 5.45pm and confirmed that a lorry travelling from Naas lost control and collided with the car on the other side of the road.
The accident, which took place at the entrance to Connell Drive, is one in a long line of incidents with lorries that use the road to get to a depot situated nearby, which mainly serves Lidl Ireland as well as a number of smaller outlets.
