Michael Sheeran: Eamon Dillon remembers his infectious ‘can-do’ attitude

“When Mick Sheeran arrived in the Leinster Leader offices on South Main Street as the new editor in 1998, no-one really know what to expect.

“He called us all in, one-by-one, to have a chat and talk about his plans for the paper. He described being appointed as the Leader’s editor as his “dream job”.

“One of his first moves as the editor was to give us reporters the freedom to write colour pieces from County Council and Town Commission meetings which we all hugely enjoyed. I doubt some the local representatives ever forgave him.

“Mick had a great sense of the importance of local roots to the regional media and brought an infectious ‘can-do’ attitude to the job that every journalist should aspire to. May he rest in peace.”

- Eamon Dillon, former Leinster Leader journalist, now with the Sunday World
