It was a lotto hat-trick for Kildare last week after the Ballymany Spar in Newbridge sold a Euromillions Plus ticket on Monday, worth €500,000 which remains, as of yet, unclaimed, writes Paula Campbell.

This is the third big win for Kildare recently, after two lucky players hit the jackpot in April.

The latest lucky ticket holder has yet to come forward according to store manager Dave Cullen who confirmed that the winning numbers were 17, 24, 26, 49 and 50. “The winner hasn’t made him or herself known to us,” he said. “They don’t need to - all they have to do is make themselves known to the lotto. This is our first Euromillions win, We had a lotto plus winner who won €350,000 once. We are celebrating the win but we would celebrate in style if we had some of it,” he joked.

At the time of going to press a spokesperson for the National Lottery said nobody had come forward to collect the winnings.

Meanwhile winner number two, an anonymous winner from Kildare, collected his quarter-of-a-million Jackpot from the National Lottery Headquarters last month. His lucky numbers were picked in the Wednesday, April 4, draw. And there was a bonus surprise for the winner, who received the lucky ticket bought at Cards N’Things in the Dunnes Stores Shopping Centre to mark his birthday. The man, who wished to keep the win private, didn’t realise the extent of his good fortune until he got to the National Lottery’s Dublin offices. “I thought I’d won €25,000,” said the shocked winner in a statement via the National Lottery. “I was really happy with that. It’d definitely help to pay off a few bills. But I only discovered there was an extra zero when I got to National Lottery offices and now I’m a quarter millionaire. It’s unbelievable – life-changing.” The lucky €32 Multi Draw ticket, which was purchased on March 23 last, had been the subject of much speculation around Newbridge during the past week as the winner had not come forward. “We are dying to know who won it,” Trish Targaglia, manager of Cards n’ Things, told the Leinster Leader earlier last month. And the major winner Giustina Macari from Kildare town, who scooped €5.7 million in the March 31 Lotto draw, collected her prize after checking her ticket on April Fools Day.
