a hard hitting film by 12 members of Newbridge-based Kildare Youth Theatre (KYT), aimed at stopping cyber bullying, has gone viral on YouTube and will be broadcast on MTV and RTE this week.

The young people are from KYT’s ‘Generator’ group ,who were selected as part of a nationwide campaign by the Department of Education and Skills to target cyber bullying in a short film called ‘Promise’.

Caolan Dundon (16), from the Curragh speaks the lines “No you’re not alone, not here, not anymore” in the video, which was made by the company Design For Life

“I think the message has become famous since I put it on Facebook - its getting really big at [my school] Curragh Post Primary. I’m really proud of it - I want to be an actor so its a great opportunity. It will take time to get the message accross. It is not going away with this video.

“I haven’t seen too much cyber bullying, but I know people who have been affected and it can go badly and put you in a bad place. It is unnecessary and it shouldn’t be happening.

Caolan said that cyber bullying is harder to combat than other types of bullying. “You can post these comments anonymously and say downright disgusting comments because they know they can get away with it.”

The short film will also be shown in the Moat Theatre on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday February 27 next at 8pm along side a new play called ‘We Lost Elijah’ by Ryan Craig, which tackles mental health issues.

The clip can be seen on Vimeo or YouTube.
