A delighted man from Co. Kildare couldn’t stop smiling today, as he collected a cheque for €500,000. The regular EuroMillions player almost binned the winning ticket but luckily decided to check it at the last minute.

“I had the ticket in my wallet for a couple of days and was nearly going to throw it out. Thankfully I changed my mind and had a look on the website – lottery.ie. I got one number, then two, then three. My heart was beating so fast I could barely see the last two numbers.”

The regular Lotto player, who wishes to keep the win private, added: “This is ten years in the making. After all this time, I’ve finally won the big one.”

He currently has no plans for the win preferring to take some time before making any big decisions. The lucky €6 Quick Pick ticket was bought in Spar, Ballymany Shopping Centre, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.
