a number of residents of Dara Park in Newbridge last Friday hand delivered a notice of liablity over a number of on-going issues with the council estate, and a petition with 162 resident signatures, to Kildare County Council.

The notice states that from now on the council will be “wholly responsible” for any sickness that occurs from contact with any “sewage or sewage related problems caused by sewage odours; any injuries caused by any of the problems that have existed in the area for a number of years such as broken or subsiding paths, damaged slabs, protuding, subsiding or damaged manholes”.

Also included with the notice was a colour coded map of Dara Park indicating “the problems that exist and have existed for decades” such as the “constant sewage overflows, flooding, and road subsidence”. It also states that council “has never come ot the estate to speak to the residents with a plan for the area”. “We have been left to fend for ourselves,” it reads.

“This is another step in our on-going battle with Kildare County Council to solve our problems that have exsisted since the conception of the estate in 1974,” said Joe Burke of Dara Park.

At the time of going to press Kildare County Council had failed to comment to the Leinster Leader.
