Kildare constituencies declare results - emphatic yes
Lisbon Treaty Referendum count at Punchestown on Saturday morning, 3rd October, last.
Although only a little more than half of those eligible to vote did so, Kildare has returned an emphatic ‘yes’ vote to the referendum on the stability treaty.
At 65.3% the northern constituency of the two embraced the Stability Treaty more so than the southern one, which returned a 58.47% in favour.
Combined, it was a 62.5% vote from Kildare in favour.
The northern constituency also had a slightly greater engagement in the referendum with 51% of those entitled to vote turning out versus 49.75% in the south – an overall of 50.5% for the whole county.
Early tallies revealed that more affluent, or traditionally farming or Fine Gael areas were inclined to vote yes, whereas urban working class areas were more inclined for vote no.
That being said, there were only a very small handful of boxes who returned a majority of no votes.
In the Northern constituency, the Total Electorate was 75,513; Total Poll was 38,366, or 51%; Invalid Poll was 135; Total Valid Poll of 38,553; Yes votes 25,169 or 65.3% and No votes 13,384 or 34.7%.
In the Southern constituency, the Total Electorate was 57,790; Total Poll was 28,669 or 49.75%; Invalid Poll was 89; Total Valid Poll was 28,580; Yes votes 16,679 or 58.47% and No votes 11,902 or 41.53%.
For the county, overall, the Total Electorate was 133,303; Total Poll was 67,035 or 50.5%; Invalid Poll was 224; Total Valid Poll was 67,133; Yes votes 41,848 or 62.5% and No votes 25,286 or 37.5%.
