Athy celebrated a special event last week when more than 150 people turned out at the Clanard Court Hotel for the launch of Athy Young at Heart, a rebranding of Athy Age Action.

Started in 2006, Athy Age Action (now Young at Heart) was established to facilitate people to make new friends and old friends, and to come togther at events and social occasions.

Treasurer Martin Chanders said it was a great night and prasied all the businesses and local representatives who helped in the past number of years, and the community support for the organisation.

“The change of name came from the push to branch out to other organisations in the area, such as Kare, Cloverlodge Nursing Home, St Vincent’s Hospital, Teach Emmanuel and St Vincent’s Hospital. It was a great night, a great celebration,” he said.

The name was literally picked out of a hat of suggestions, and Patti Ging’s name proved the winner.

In addition, the logo was designed by Caroline Donovan and encompasses the Athy scenery.

Upcoming Young at Heart events include bingo on March 13 in the Dominican Hall, Athy, bowling in Carlow in April with a meal in Athy Golf Club afterwards.
