Two suspected dissident republicans are in Garda custody following a search of a Newbridge house.

Two robbers, one armed with a knife and the other with sharp piece of metal, held up Centra newsagent in Johnstown village last Saturday morning, writes Lisa Deeney.

At approximately 8.10am, the two men entered the shop and ordered staff and some regular customers to the back of the newsagent.

They confiscated all mobile phones, forced open the ATM where they stole a sum of cash. No one was injured and the ordeal lasted approximately 15 minutes.

Gardai in Naas are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 045-884300.
